ATUMANKA (ATUMAH FIDELIS)

BIOGRAPHY

Atumah Fidelis (a.k.a. Atumanka) was born on the 25th of June, 1961, at Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria.

He obtained his NCE (National Certificate in Education) from the then College of Education, Abraka, and a BA.Ed in Sculpture from Delta State University, Abraka.

He is an MFA (Master in Fine Arts) candidate in Sculpture at Delta State University, Abraka. His areas of specialization are Sculpture, Painting, Art History, Human Development, and Art Criticism.

Atumanka’s father was a painter, which led him to become a sculptor par excellence, with a great flair for painting.

Atumanka is also a curator and the C.E.O. of Atumanka African Art Studio and Gallery, located in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Atumah Fidelis is the Chairman of the SNA (Society of Nigerian Artists), Delta State Chapter.

This our Oga also teaches Sculpture and Drawing at the College of Education, Warri, Delta State, Nigeria.

Visual Artist Atumah Fidelis has taken part in many group and solo exhibitions, among which are:

  • Guinness Art Exhibition, Lagos (2005)

  • Alliance Française Art Exhibition, Warri

  • South-South Economic Summit Exhibition, Asaba (2012)

Atumanka is consciously inspired by environmental content, socio-political and economic realities, relics of Afrikan heritage, the African identity in traditional Afrikan settings, and echoes of metaphysical and subliminal realms.

This artist’s works were first rendered in naturalism, then transcended to expressionism, and later metamorphosed into surrealism.
