"The Independent Woman II"

The work celebrates strong women everywhere, who have driven their families through the most challenging times.

A lot of Zino’s works, celebrate the strength of women in celebration of his mother, who raised his family, after the early death of his father.

The predominantly orange colours represent strength and brown represents humility despite their strength.

The distant houses represent the traditional Gwari houses from Northern Nigeria. Women from this region are renowned for their strength. They do not carry loads on their heads, which is revered as a leader of the body, meant solely for thinking for the whole body.

You can see the women carrying their “responsibilities” on their backs and shoulders.

Zinno has used home building shapes of rectangles and triangles to create this work, to demonstrate the home building capacity of these women. He blends the shapes and colours seamlessly, to achieve this powerful image.
